Topic:  (1)  You are a New Creature in Christ: Biological or Spiritual? – 2 Corinthians 5:17

The traditional view of the new heavens and earth has been either a complete renovation of the planet and its atmosphere or the total replacement of the solar system. Since this has not happened, then the view has been that there has been no new creation. However, I have come to see that Jesus and his apostles never had this physical and material view of the new heavens and earth.

Topic:  (3)  Genesis One: Origin or Transformation? – Genesis 1:1

The 'beginning' spoken of in Genesis 1:1 was the commencement of a week of transformation, not the beginning of all things.

Isaiah 43:1  Creating “bara” and forming “yatsar” Jacob into Israel as a nation – House of Israel

Genesis 1:1-3  Same word here, notice how it is used in Isaiah, not necessarily out of nothing

Job 42:12  The word “reshiyth” used in Genesis 1:1 is the same word used here to refer to Job’s early life

Job 1:1-3  Job’s beginning referred to the beginning of the story not his coming into existence

Isaiah 46:10  Another use of the Hebrew word “reshiyth”

Topic:  (4)  Is Genesis One LITERALLY Scientific?

Here's the danger of doing that: If we read Genesis as a scientific textbook, then we would expect it to conform to science… but it doesn't… for it is written from the perspective and world view of an ancient near East observer, designed to reveal the real and the spiritual through the natural.  Since the text is inspired by the Spirit of God, we cannot ignore the fact that the primary objective of the Genesis account is not to be a record of material things, but spiritual realities and the covenantal relationship between God and man depicted through nature, natural events and people.

Topic:  (5)  Formless and Void is not what you think! – Genesis 1:2

The Hebrew expression tohu wabohu refers simply to a “wilderness” that has not yet become inhabitable for human beings. It is the “wilderness,” for example, where the Israelites wandered for PHYSICALLY AND SPIRITUALLY forty years BEFORE entering the PROMISED ERETS/land.

Jeremiah 4:23-26  This passage is describing a de-creation, Genesis 1 in reverse

Exodus 27:20  This is the “priesthood of the heavens” where their light should never go out

Revelation 21:22  The old shadow of things became a reality in Christ!

Ezekiel 22:30  No “covenant man” was found to mediate for the people before God

Topic:  (6)  Genesis 1: Let the Light Appear; Daylight on Day One – Genesis 1:3-5

When God began preparing the land for his covenant people in Gen 1, the first thing he calls forth is light. That light began peeking through the dense cloud obscuring the sun. That light also was the dawning of the knowledge of God upon the ancient people which began having a sanctifying or separating effect on them.

1. On Day 1 of the 6 Days of Gen 1: No material thing was produced, constructed, built, fabricated, put together or assembled

2. On Day 1 of the 6 days of Gen 1: There was no ex nihilo production of stuff.

Genesis 1:3  The verb “yehi” is in the imperfect tense implying the light is becoming or appearing

Genesis 1:5  No material stuff was created, God simply defined Day and Night covenantally

Exodus 12:1-2  God defines month and year for Israel in a covenant sense

Exodus 16:4-5  God is instructing them using concepts He had established at creation

Exodus 16:22-23  God establishes the Sabbath as a day of rest using the same concepts

Exodus 31:13-17  The story goes from Natural to Covenantal based on the creation story

Exodus 19:5  God’s covenant with Israel was to separate (holy) them from all other nations

1 John 1:5  Natural => Covenantal => Spiritual - God is Light

Psalm 27:1  This is a spiritual understanding of the Genesis “Light”

Isaiah 9:2  This is NOT a physical condition but a spiritual one, the knowledge of God, revelation

Daniel 5:11  Even the Babylonians understood light as a metaphor for the knowledge of God

Psalm 43:3  Light is associated with Truth, the knowledge and wisdom of God

Topic:  (7)  Genesis 1: The Waters Above the Heaven; Let the Raqia Appear – Genesis 1:6-8

When we examine each act of God in the Genesis one account, we find that God was not ‘creating’ material things, but he was instead giving covenant purpose, order, and function and spiritual meaning to already existing elements. The raqia depicted the barrier between God and Man, physically yes, but also covenantally and spiritually. It had doors and windows which were the clouds through which God blessed his covenant people with rain for obedience and drought for disobedience. The skies were the domain of God and his angels/ministers and priests whose teaching fell from heaven like rain.

Genesis 1:8  The word “samayim” heaven(s) is plural and the same word used in Genesis 1:1

Genesis 1:6-7  The expanse “raqia”, the “samiyim” appears and God defines it’s function, separation

1 Samuel 12:6  Same verb “appointed” used in the Genesis account

Psalm 104:19  Same verb again but we should be thinking about appointed times “moadim”

Malachi 3:9-10  The opening of the windows of heaven is God sending rain, Natural => Covenantal

2 Chronicles 6:26-27  The heaven shut means no rain because of a covenant transgression

John 3:13  Jesus came from that which was inaccessible so we can pass through the “raqia”

Proverbs 30:4  Jesus eludes to this passage in John 3:13, this is the Spiritual reality NOW

Ephesians 2:5-6  We have passed through the “raqia” according to Paul

Psalm 78:23  God provided for His covenant people through the “raqia”

John 6:50-53  Jesus is the living bread, He is the Spiritual fulfillment of the manna

Deuteronomy 32:1-2  The rain comes from above the heavens and drops as God’s Word

Topic:  (8)  Genesis 1: Let the Dry Land Appear – Genesis 1:9-10

God is portrayed as ordering the already existing water away from the already existing land, to make the Erets/Earth/Dry Land habitable for his people. He then gave names and definitions of the land and sea. Was there covenantal and spiritual significance to God separating the waters from the dry land? The enemies of God’s covenant people were consistently likened to seas and waters, and the covenant observance separated God’s people from all the other nations around them. Whenever Israel’s enemies would rise up, if Israel was in a righteous condition, God would prevent the 'seas' from overflowing them.
