VideoCast Playlist - The Passing of the Heavens and the Earth
Topic: (1) The Heaven and the Earth in Jesus' Day – Matthew 5:18-19
When we read in the bible of the passing of the heavens and the earth, we should begin to think, if we already haven’t, that what Jesus and his apostles were speaking of was not the passing of the material heavens and the material earth, but the covenant heavens and the covenant earth.

Topic: (2) The Law and the Prophets were bound to the Heavens and Earth – Matt 5:17-18
God undertook to fulfill every detail (every jot and title) of the promises and prophecies of the Law and the Prophets to the Old Covenant people and they in turn were required to observe every detail (every jot and title) of the obligations of the Old Covenant Law. When God had, therefore, fulfilled the promises and prophecies of the Law and the Prophets, he legally ended that old covenant relationship and legally established a NEW covenant relationship between the heavens and earth.

Topic: (3) The Fulfilling of the Law and the Prophets – Matt 5:17-18
According to Matthew 5:17-18, when all things written in the Law and the Prophets were accomplished and fulfilled, God’s people would be relieved of their obligations to the old Law, and the heavens and earth would pass away. This passing of the old covenant heavens and earth would reveal a new heavens and earth.

Topic: (4) The Passing of Nebuchadnezzar’s Heavens and Earth – Matthew 24:29-35
Why would the Day of the Lord that came to Jerusalem between 66 and 70 be substantially different from the Day of the Lord that came to Babylon circa 540 BC? Why would the passing of Israel’s heavens and earth be substantially different than the passing of Babylon’s heavens and earth? If the passing of Babylon’s heavens and earth culminated with their kingdom being overrun and destroyed by the Medes and Persians, then why would the passing of Israel’s heavens and earth not be their kingdom being overrun by the rebels and mercenaries, and being destroyed by the Roman armies? If the passing of Babylon’s heavens and earth did not affect the surrounding nations, so that people could flee from Babylon to these nations, then why would the passing of Israel’s heavens and earth similarly not affect the surrounding nations and the rest of the planet?
